Introduction to Authentication

Authentication is a critical aspect of the SmartPayGenie platform, ensuring that only authorized users have access to their accounts and sensitive information. By implementing robust authentication methods, SmartPayGenie protects both the platform and its users from unauthorized access and potential security breaches.

1. Create an Account

  • Steps to create an account:
    • 1. Sign-Up Process:
      • Visit the SmartPayGenie website or app and click on the "Sign Up" button.
      • Enter your basic information, including your Business name,First name, Last name,Email address,Password. 
      • Agree to the terms and conditions, then click "Create Account" to proceed.
  • Account creation failed?
    • Common Issues:
      • 1. Email already in Use:
        • If you receive an error stating that the email is already in use, it means there’s already an account associated with that email address. You can try logging in or resetting your password.
      • 2. Weak Password:
        • If your password doesn’t meet the security requirements (e.g too short or missing special characters), you’ll need to create a stronger password.
      • 3. Missing Information:
        • Ensure that all required fields are filled out correctly before submitting the form.
  • Solutions:
    • 1. Use a Different Email:
      • If the email is already in use and you can't remember the account details, consider using a different email to create a new account.
    • 2. Follow Password Guidelines:
      • Make sure your password meets all the security criteria provided during the sign-up process.
    • 3. Double-Check Your Information:
      • Review the form for any missing or incorrect information before trying to create the account again.

2. Login

  • Steps to Log In:
    • 1. Enter Credentials:
      • On the login page, enter your registered email address or username along with your password.
      • Click "Login" to access your account.
    • 2. Two-Factor Authentication (if enabled):
      • If 2FA is enabled, you’ll need to enter the code sent to your phone or email to complete the login process.
  • Login Issues:
    • Incorrect Credentials:
      • Double-check that your email/username and password are entered correctly. Pay attention to caps lock and any special characters.

3. Forgot and Reset Password

  • Steps to Reset your password:
    • 1. Forgot Password:
      • Click on the "Forgot Password?" link on the login page.
      • Enter the email address associated with your account and click "Continue"
    • 2. Check your Email:
      • You will receive an email with a link to reset your password. If you don’t see it in your inbox, check your spam or junk folder.
    • 3. Reset Password:
      • Click the link in the email, enter your new password twice (to confirm), and click "Submit" to reset your password.
  • Password Reset Issues:
    • Didn’t receive the Email:
      • Ensure that you entered the correct email address and check your spam or junk folders. If the issue persists, try requesting the reset link again.
    • Link Expired:
      • Password reset links are time-sensitive. If the link has expired, request a new one by repeating the "Forgot Password" process.

4. OTP Verification

  • What is OTP Verification?
    • One-Time Password (OTP):
      • OTP is an additional security feature that generates a unique, time-sensitive code sent to your registered email or mobile number. This code is required to complete certain actions, such as logging in, making changes to your account, or confirming transactions.
  • Steps to Complete OTP Verification:
    • 1. Receive OTP:
      • After initiating an action that requires OTP verification, you’ll receive a 6-digit code via email.
    • 2. Enter OTP:
      • On the platform, you’ll be prompted to enter the OTP code you received.
    • 3. Verification:
      • Once you enter the correct OTP, the action will be verified and completed.
  • Issues with OTP Verification:
    • Didn’t Receive OTP:
      • Ensure your phone has network coverage, or check your email’s spam folder. If you still don’t receive the OTP, request a new code.
    • Invalid OTP:
      • Ensure you’re entering the code exactly as it appears, without any spaces. Remember that OTP codes expire after a short time, so if your code is invalid, request a new one.
